Using DNA for family research has become very popular, but when Fredrich Miescher discovered DNA in 1869, and Messrs Watson & Crick discovered the double helix structure in 1953 with significant and often overlooked help from Rosalind Franklin, they didn't have ancestry research in mind.
Its use has exploded in recent years but experienced exponents will advise you that DNA alone is an ineffectual tool without genealogical research - and, surprisingly, family anecdotes!
